CCA Career

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Program

GET CREDIT FOR PAST LEARNING AND EXPERIENCE

Do you have lots of experience providing care?
You may be eligible to pursue CCA Certification through the Recognizing Prior Learning (RPL) Program.

RPL Program helps you get credit for the significant care-related on-the-job training, formal education, and life experiences you already have. Through the process you prove that you have the required knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) required for CCA Certification.

You may qualify for one of two RPL methods:

  • Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR)

PLAR Phase I assessment allows you to gain credit towards CCA Program competencies (education) based on your demonstration of care-related knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) gained through on-the-job training, formal education, and life experiences. Phase II provides the education and placement experience you need as a result of the Phase I assessment (individualized learning path), to become an exam candidate.

  • Course Recognition (CR)

Course Recognition means your formal education certificate or diploma has already been assessed and assigned a learning path linked to the CCA Program competencies (education). With course recognition, you start in Phase II and complete the education and placement experiences required based on the assigned learning path to become an exam candidate.
